The island in the Atlantic 100% sustainable.
The smallest of the Canary Islands, El Hierro, is in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island is Valverde. The island has an area of 268,71 square kilometers and 10,000 inhabitants.
El Hierro is also in the influence of the northeast trade winds, the vegetation is not as lush as green neighboring islands of La Palma, Tenerife and La Gomera. The reason is that much of the island are covered with even younger lavas, forests were felled and then began the erosion of land.
Real estate agents can not be found on El Hierro. Most of the properties are offered by real estate agencies in Tenerife. There are fewer apartments and more Canarian houses and stone houses for sale. The prices are slightly higher than on the other islands. This is due to the relatively high demand and a very small offer on this Canary Island.
With its airport El Hierro is connected by Binter Canarias with the neighboring islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Since the early 90s, there are also regular ferry services connecting El Hierro to Los Cristianos in Tenerife.
The complicated accessibility and lack of beaches make the island less attractive for a family holiday. The only sandy beach about 100 meters (Verodal beach) is located on the west coast. Due to strong waves is not recommended for non-professional swimmers.
