Canary Islands is evaluating various measures to facilitate access to housing for young people
18 09 - 2024
The councilor has emphasized that the goal of the Government of the Canary Islands during this legislative session is to develop new tools that provide young people with more options for independence. So far, existing initiatives have not been sufficient to help Canarians under 35 establish their life projects in their own homes. In this context, housing is not only a basic right but also a fundamental need that allows young people to build their futures, start families, and contribute to the economic and social development of the Canary Islands. It is essential that effective policies are implemented to address the barriers young people face in accessing property.Among the proposals being considered is the revival of the young mortgage initiative, aimed at establishing an additional tool to facilitate property purchases. This new approach involves developing a framework agreement accessible to all financial entities, complementing the project already launched by the Official Credit Institute.Through these measures, the Government of the Canary Islands hopes not only to improve the housing situation for young people but also to foster a more conducive environment for them to thrive and actively contribute to Canary society.
